In the ancient egyptian mythology is the hamadryas baboon “Thot” god of the moon and also patron saint of the writers, of the magic, of the sciences, of the calender and of wisdom. Thatswhy it exist a lot of little sculptures of baboons sitting in front of a writer with crossed legs.
The size of the original of this baboon is 52 cm. The material is ivory alabaster with some red colour traces on the face. You can visit it in the “Neuen Museum” at Berlin.
